“Hearing the students actively talking about starting their business and being excited as we add on additional steps. They fully understand how setting goals and planning can lead them to much success,” stated Kaija Miller-Kyles, CEOs of 2mro Program Leader.
Over the course of the 12-week program, students will have: set intentional goals, determined their business market, learned about their ideal customer, created a lean business plan (including marketing strategies), and know how to file their business in the state of Wisconsin, and potential startup costs.
For students and their families, CEOs of 2mro has made room for conversations such as salaries, career paths, future goals, and different aspects of entrepreneurial life between scholars and their parents.
Lisa, the mother of FUL Intern Jay shared, “Jay would come home asking me, " Mom, what’s your annual salary? We have had conversations about who he wants to become, job salaries, different career paths, and more about his life beyond college.”
CEOs of 2mro is helping scholars to think of different possibilities and choices for life beyond college. Jay is an avid video game lover. Before CEOs of 2mro, Jay wanted to be a professional video game player. After learning more about the earning potential, and other factors, Jay now wants to be a CEO of a video game design company.
“I hope to continue seeing students grow and ask questions about how they can expand their business idea to make it a reality in the coming years. Some have ideas that, if pursued by those around them, could be implemented within the next 1-2 years.”

“I believe this program aligns with the mission of Future Urban Leaders to provide students with unique learning experiences and exposure to opportunities that typically are not available to them. I believe it is important for students to see someone like them, not too much older than them, and do something that is also attainable to them,” stated Ms. Miller-Kyles.
Puppetry on the Mind for our Young Einsteins
On Tuesday, February 21st, FUL's K4 thru 2nd grade scholars were visited by local artist Anwar Floyd-Pruit from the House of RAD.
On this day, they were blessed with a puppet show, a lesson on how to create their own puppet, and even got the chance to make their own, all in one session!
The energy in the room was magnetic, as students cut, glued, and smiled their way through the fruitful process.
At Future Urban Leaders, we believe in cultivating the genius and imagination of our young scholars. Events like this are what we live and breathe for!
Future Urban Leaders Kicks Off Women's History Month
On Monday, February 27th, Future Urban Leaders kicked off Women's History Month by participating in Milwaukee Business Journal's 10th Annual Mentoring Monday event at Alverno College.
Ten of our amazing female scholars got the opportunity to engage with over 30 mentors, some of the most influential women in Milwaukee's professional community. Our young ladies, along with four of our FUL mothers, interacted with the leaders of several different industries: marketing, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, education, healthcare, and media.
With events like this, FUL strives to expose young scholars to a vast network outside of the classroom, where they can explore a multitude of opportunities of interest to them.
Take a bow scholars! This is one of many moments of greatness that awaits you!
Pneumatics and Hydraulics with K'Nex
Our Pneumatics and Hydraulics with K'Nex program provides our 3rd - 5th grade students the opportunity to discover STEM by exploring and engineering through the fascinating science of pneumatic (air) and hydraulics (water) using components of K’Nex. We are honored to have Tonet Johnson, a master science teacher at Milwaukee College Prep and is a Lego Robotics coach as the program lead for this class.

The program allows students to work as a team to build different pneumatic and hydraulic machines. Each build requires students to collaborate with one another and select and execute specific roles within the group, make and test their predictions, discuss adjustments to their machines, design and implement enhancements for better performance, and experience first hand the steps of the scientific method.
Some of the activities & machines built throughout this 2022 in this program included;
a castle that has four walls, two turrets, and a drawbridge
a pneumatic launcher that will send a rocket 2 feet into the air
a pneumatic submarine that can go up and down in the water as the air pressure increases and decreases
a pneumatic catapult that will launch a missile at least three feet
a car that is powered by air
a hydraulic dump truck that can lift and dump a load
a hydraulic digger that can lift various objectives
FUL Young Einsteins Enter a Whole New World...of ART!
On Tuesday, February 7th, our Young Einstein scholars (grades 4K thru 2nd) were invited to the House of RAD, a local arts collective operating out of the Riverwest community. The studio is home to 20 artists with varied backgrounds of artistry. Here you'll find anything from welding, to agate cutting, to jewelry making, to carpentry.
Our Young Einsteins visited David Jones and Marilyn Propp of Anchor Press, Paper and Print - a community based print shop operating out of the studio. Scholars sketched a piece of artwork that embodied their spirit and got the opportunity to create ink prints with Marilyn and FUL parents coaching them along. When that stage concluded, they then worked with David who readied the young people for the opportunity of the evening: running their own artwork through a printing press!
Scholars leapt at the opportunity to work the wheel of the machine the "Price is Right" style! Laughs, smiles, and positive energy spread throughout the studio, as everyone was in the jovial spirits about the artwork being created. FUL looks forward to creating future opportunities with David and Marilyn and all the other resident art doers in the studio space.
